As part of “Celebrating a Century of Conservation” , please meet Jeanne Clark, author of America’s Wildlife Refuges: Lands of Promise. Jeanne will be on hand in the Masonic Center lobby to share and discuss her writings and sell and sign copies of her wonderful new book. Imagine a system of land almost as big as the state of California. Envision landscapes that embrace the geography of an entire nation, from chilling arctic tundra and desert arroyos to prairies carpeted with wildflowers and surf-battered beaches. Visualize the fish and wildlife these lands sustain, from lumbering bison to feather light butterflies. With evocative text and stunning photographs, America's Wildlife Refuges: Lands of Promise conveys the scope and diversity of the National Wildlife Refuge System. The book showcases the evolution and expansion of the Refuge System by featuring dozens of wildlife success stories that have occurred throughout its one hundred year history. The light, descriptive narrative highlights wildlife species, individual refuges, special management efforts, and people, underscoring how national wildlife refuges have made a difference. Tom and Pat Leeson's spectacular color photography brings the dramatic beauty of refuge lands and their inhabitants to life on page after page.
