Gage's Ecotour: Bird-viewing Drift Boat Floats on the Sacramento & Feather Rivers

For all trips lead by Gage’s Fly Fishing & Eco Tours, guests will meet at a pre-designated location in Chico where a lead driver will check them in and escort them to the take-out point in their own cars. Transportation will be provided from there. These special float trips are all done in beautiful drift boats which are paddle-powered, smooth, safe, and quiet. All guests will be provided a Coast Guard Approved Personal Floatation Device for the duration of the float.

Trips available January 22-26 by request. Please give us a call if you’d like to get on the water early. As always, Gage’s is happy to put together a custom trip for your day out!

Feather River Low Flow: Oroville Wildlife Area

All half-day trips will be on the Low Flow of the Feather River. This float will take you through parts of the approximately 11,800-acre Oroville Wildlife Area. Abundant waterfowl, dove, quail, osprey, white-tailed kite, egrets, woodpeckers, and warblers can all be seen throughout this tributary to the Sacramento River. There are good populations of coyote, fox, bobcat, porcupine, deer, squirrel and rabbit as well.

Female long-tailed duck (old squaw) sighted in this stretch of river December 2013.

Coffee and water will be provided to guests on half-day floats. Guests are encouraged to bring their own warm layers, rain-gear (weather depending), binoculars, cameras and snacks.

Seats are available for $100 per person or reserve an entire boat for $400 (seats four.)

Sacramento River: Red Bluff to Mill Creek

All full-day floats will be on the Lower Sacramento River between Red Bluff and Mill Creek (Los Molinos.) This drift starts at the Sacramento River Discovery Center where we launch just below the historic Red Bluff Diversion Dam. Here guests will have a chance to explore the Discovery Center before we launch and enjoy some coffee and snacks in the Center’s botanical gardens.

The drift takes guests downriver along the largest contiguous section of habitat within the Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge complex. The entire west side of the Sacramento River on this float is publicly owned and managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The intact and restored habitat is only accessible by boat and provides a home for many types of mammalian and avian species, including: osprey, bald eagles, deer, river otters, beaver, red-shoulder and red-tail hawks, bank and tree swallows, lots of resident and migratory song birds, and abundant waterfowl activity.

Coffee, water and a quality riverside lunch will be provided on all full-day river trips. (Please contact us if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies we need to know about.) Guests are encouraged to bring their own warm layers, rain-gear (weather depending), binoculars, cameras and snacks.

Seats are available for $125 per person or reserve an entire boat for $500 (seats four.)
